Mastopexy

Do breast lifts affect milk supply?

If a mastopexy, or breast lift, avoids milk tissue and does not cut milk ducts near the areola, milk supply should be unaffected. If the surgery is more extensive, it may cause problems like those caused by breast reduction surgery.

A) Describing a mastopexy

A mastopexy, or breast lift, is a type of surgery that can be done in various ways, including:

  • Moving the nipple and areola
  • Removing excess skin, fat, or milk tissue
  • Adding an implant

B) The effect of a mastopexy on breastfeeding

Milk supply should be unaffected if the lift does not involve milk tissue or cut ducts near the areola. If the surgery is more extensive, it may cause problems similar to those caused by breast reduction surgery .

Other breastfeeding problems are also possible.
